Yamhill County is a county located in the state of Oregon. According to Oregon Geographic Names, the origin of the name is uncertain, but is probably from an explorer's name for a local Native American tribe, the Yamhill, who are part of the North Kalapuyan family. The population of Yamhill County was 84,992 in the 2000 census. The county seat is located at McMinnville.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 718 square miles, of which 716 square miles of it is land.

Yamhill County is also the center of Oregon's wine industry, having the largest area of any Oregon county planted in vineyards. Six of the state's American Viticultural Areas (AVA) are wholly or partly in the county: Chehalem Mountains AVA, Dundee Hills AVA, Eola-Amity Hills AVA, McMinnville AVA, Ribbon Ridge AVA, and Yamhill-Carlton District AVA. Over 80 wineries and 200 vineyards represent the largest concentration of wine growers and producers in any county in the state. Pinot Noir produced in the county have rivaled the best in the world. Others varieties grown include Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer.

Art & Wine, McMinnville
From 2-8 pm on every third Saturday of the month, the Art & Wine event will take place in historic downtown McMinnville. Downtown merchants, galleries and restaurants are joining together with local artists and wineries to bring you a family-friendly event which showcases our historic downtown area's small-town atmosphere.
