About Gilliam County
Gilliam County is a county located in the state of Oregon. The county was established in 1885 and is named for Cornelius Gilliam, who commanded the forces of the provisional government of Oregon after the Whitman Massacre. In 2000, the population was 1,915. The seat of the county is Condon.
Gilliam County is also home to numerous wind farms and stands in the center of wind industry expansion in the state of Oregon. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,223 square miles, of which 1,204 square miles is land and 19 square miles is water.
Gilliam County is in the heart of the Columbia Basin wheat area. Its economy is based primarily on agriculture centering on wheat, barley, and beef cattle. Apples and other irrigated crops have become an important part of the economy of the north end of the county. After agriculture and livestock, other principal industries of Gilliam County include tourism, hunting, and fishing. Wind turbine farms have become a significant presence on the county's landscape in recent years as well.

July - Condon Fabulous 4th of July, Condon
The Fabulous 4th of July celebration is the community’s premier event. The town doubles in size as folks from near and far come to join the festivities. Kids delight in grabbing candy thrown from the ANNUAL parade's entrants…not once but twice, when the parade turns around and retraces its steps. Main Street shuts down for an old fashioned soap box derby and tricycle races for all ages. Adults enjoy activities like the golf tournament or just running into an old friend on the street that they haven’t seen in ages. Whether you are a local, have friends or family in town, or are just looking for a safe, family friendly place to spend the 4th of July, Condon is the place to be. September, Gilliam County Fair, Condon
“Windmills and Golden Hills" – All ages are invited to attend this friendly, old-fashioned community fair. Attendees will enjoy arts & crafts, home economics and 4H exhibits.
