Deschutes County is located in the state of Oregon. In 2000, its population was 115,367. The county was named for the Deschutes River, which itself was named by French-Canadian trappers of the early 19th century. It is part of the Bend, Oregon, Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the political and economic hub of Central Oregon. The county seat is Bend.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,055 square miles, of which 3,018 square miles is land and 37 square miles is water.

June - Pacific Crest Sports Festival, Sunriver
This weekend of multi-sport events, including the half-marathon, marathon, endurance duathlon, and half-iron triathlon begins with the Health & Fitness Expo throughout the weekend with some of the best competitive racing in the country. This event also includes kid's competitions, great food, a beer garden, live bands, and a race "Kick Off Party". Event takes place on the trails, roadways and lakes surrounding Sunriver with all "Special Events" taking place in the Sunriver Village Mall.

July - Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, Sisters

The Bend Film Festival transforms Bend from a recreational haven into a town possessed by the soul of independent film-making. November - The Dodge Columbia River Circuit Finals Rodeo, Redmond
The Columbia River Pro Rodeo Circuit is a part of the circuit system within the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association comprised of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Come see the Dodge Columbia River Pro Rodeo Circuit crown their finals champions in bareback, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull ridging!
